Running Aerobic vs Anaerobic

kind of two important terms huh?……and defining them, pretty simple….

Aerobic would be like a clean burning fire…..you’re not building up lactic acid, you’re breathing easy, you can carry on a conversation, you can sing every song on your IPOD, you’re burning FAT, you’re transporting more oxygen loaded blood cells everywhere, your body is creating even more capillaries to carry those blood cells, your body is munching more calories to produce more energy……all good stuff…and pretty much the majority of my training…whether I’m running, on a bike or in the pool…

LIke I said though, I never just move at that one pace…….I’m all over the place, and at points, I shift over into Anaerobic….burning dirty fuel……quickly….gulping for air….but, well, I guess in theory, building more muscle, and getting quicker, and as my quicker runs make me stronger, I then am able to magically make my Aerobic running, quicker…while staying aerobic…like magic.

I’m really conflicted about running drills…..do they help?……you’d have to do a lot of them, regularly, be consistant, so sure, maybe a good idea…but it depends on why you run…

I’m never going to be quick or fast…I just wanna run comfortable……and be active, so the majority of my runs are aerobic, if not all of my runs…broken up with some dips into anaerobic……….if I’m actually training for a race, or better yet, coaching others that want to get quicker/stronger……then, yeah, we’ll head to the local track if it’s available…or we will do hill repeats…….but it’s never been my focus.

i’m currently looking towards 2012, and a full marathon in Vancouver in May, so my running, my training will become more into focus……I do have an idea what my training plan will look while………the main focus, will be, lots of cross training to get that indurance training in, and that pounding, high impact running to just as much as I need and not more than I need to prevent injuries…

My next post, I’ll post the beginning of that training plan…in the meantime, I plan on having fun……..the goal is a trip to Banff in a few weeks for a 10K through the Rocky Mountains….just because…I like to run, my goal is to always make it fun, and enjoy myself…I’m old (63)…so I have to do that, I never want to make this work…something I have to do, it has to be what I want to do…….

still frustraited…..but, there is a plan to help get me, and keep me inspired
