Runner’s injuries…..nonsense?

so, what do you do when someone tells you theY’RE injured…?

or better yet, they give you a list of things that hurts, you listen, you listen, you nod your head…in person or figuratively….and eveything they say tells you there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed BY A PROFESSIONAL!

I know, I understand…you don’t want to admit to yourself that you’ve an injury!…something, which the cure may mean, well, stopping, and getting it fixed!

Yeah, sometimes that happens…but you know it ain’t right! so get it fixxed…get it diagnosed by someone that understands……

Maybe your GPt…no, not a chiropractor!….get a referal first..a physio?….someone that understands what you do, what what you want to ( need to?) do, so that they’ll do whatever needs to be done to get you going again…..someone that’ll let you stay active while you get better even……..but, don’t let it go!

I’ve been there…sure, a lot ….shin splints, plantar fasciitis, hamstring pulls, and that overall diagnosis:runner’s knee…..I’ve fractured an ankle, and even fell on my head and fractured it……it did take me a while to learn that lesson: if you don’t get it fixed, it’ll become chronic, be with you in some way, FOREVER…if whatever isn’t allowed to properly heal….guess what?…..it’ll be with you forever….

The extreme, well, my head…fell on it almost 2 years ago, fractured my occipital bone?

along with a concussion..this was more serious than I thought at first – I guess I could have died….I put off getting checked out, then waited for a CT scan, and I even kept trying to run…and now amost 2 years later, the fracture has fixed itself, but the concussion lives on…and on….and yep, may not never completely heal … so not looking after myself, a lifetime of pain……there is a lesson here…do as I say, not as I did

A lot of time pain is just that pain, temporary….a foam roller, a massage, a little rest, a better shoe….a slight adjustment…and good to go…but YOU NEED TO BE SURE .. there are people that get paid to figure that out….what we do, endurance, almost always lends itself to stuff hurting…you can even run when something feels hurt, but when something IS HURT!

But…that question…sure, I coach, I instruct, I sell shoes…I run, I should know what it is right?

NOPE!!!…yeah, I could guess, I may have had what you have…..I may even have some advise…….the first thing I will say, would be to SEE SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME!….

Simple huh..it may take time, if you’re not sure you trust that diagnosis, get a second opinion…….if you’re lucky, treatment and and you’ll run again soon, or won’t miss a step..maybe it’s just something that a little K-Tape will fix….maybe some stengthening with an elatstic band…if the person you see, knows that you need to run, knows that you have an event coming up soon even …………if that person can, they’ll get you there……

I had that happen to me…a few weeks after, this was me!..about 21 years ago….all it took was some time in an orthptic..and ran a pretty good half marathon…..

so yes…it can be fixed, you can heal…….BUT SEE SOMEONE…now!…….do not wait and hope it fixes itself!
