A new Runner’s guide?

everytime I begin a clinic, I always look at and listen to all those that have decided to participate….

in an actually in-person class, that’s easy, virtual, a bit more of a challenge…I guess some are shy?

this current virtual group is not that different in some ways – a lot of them r just looking for inspiration and a guide to get up and running. others looking for a way to make that commitment.

what is really different is the experience of my current group…

yep, a lot that had never taken a step, or have tried one step and stopped…

but a lot that have all kinds of experience……everything from full on triathlon to off road ulta distance…which is a bit concerning..a challenge…..but, one i’m up for. it just means addressing everyone’s interests, and expectations….and making sure they all get their $$$ worth….me 24/7 for 10 to 18 weeks and beyond…and keep things real, honest….and me listening rather then me being the boss…

the best is in hearing the success stories…

I’m half way through this current clinic, and this weekend one announced proudly that she’d been progressing, and is proud of that, and had been marking every run on a calendar on her fridge – so far, 15 runs – ……

that’s why I keep doing this….when they get that, have that sucess, and enjoy what we all do…running…I like seeing that light bulb moment

the toughest part is finding ways to get some to commit, and to be accountable..because, without me in person by their side, all I’ve got is words and that weekly Zoom meet….so they commit to themselves, and have to be accountable to themselves….sometimes that a challenge…finding time, finding the motivation…which I get, because at times, that’s me……finding a reason…..beyond just signing up..

actually that is so me now…I somehow managed to break a toe…..so running hurts and is a challenge…and honestly, a lot of times, that Zoom meet with 25 commited people, that’s my motivation……and yeah, maybe I won’t be running as much as walking and on the bike until I heal…….but I will still be the instructor…..a personal trainer…I hate that term….I like being the support, a guide, the cheerleader, and just me doing what do….whatever that is
