63 – 92 days to Vancouver May 1st

A rest and a day to contemplate.

The day began with a Zoom call with my Learn to Run group, with a guest speaker, an accomplished local athlete, ultra marathoner and beyond……..inspiring, motivating, and yeah helped me focus, and provided the same to the 79 in this clinic….or at least for the 30 that joined in the Zoom.

It’s been a rough week, a lot of things that seemed to get in the way of training, but, well listening to Natalie, I realized the problem wasn’t external, it was internal….and I know this, it’s not a mystery.

I actually have a lot of spare time…..a lot of spare time…..sure attending to this group, I’m like a personal trainer to 79 people, so that commitment takes time; as kind of a house husband, I do have things to look after at home…..at least groceries and meals and day to day things……but still, I have all the time in the world to run, bike, and swim to my heart’s content…..the only restriction is me.

I’m going to make a commitment to next week, January 31st to February 6th, to schedule and make use of each and every day…..when there’s nothing else to do, train…..maybe not endurance, but enhancement….yoga, weight training, deadlifts and good old planks……..but yeah…..run, bike, swim, and repeat…..

The focus right now is the half marathon in Vancouver, the BMO on May 1st; if all goes well, the Leading Edge Half here in St. Albert on May 15th……..

Even though, I keep on thinking about after….do I want to run a full marathon, is a triathlon part of this year’s goals?

I hate saying things, that sound like; I think, maybe, hopefully, I’d rather say I will……

There are a lot of variables. maybe I’ll just stick to goal after one goal is made, so yeah

the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon, that starting line at Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday May 1st…and, can I do 2 hours?…….I did 1:51 many many years ago….

You know what? I think this blog has me thinking, I guess that’s why we write them, or maybe why I do?

Vancouver May 1st..the half……the goal, the Victoria October 27th….and the real goal, 1:51…..

I’ve only run the Goodlife Victoria Marathon half twice , I’ve run the full marathon there 3 times…I must like the place….my best time in Victoria for the half was 2:00:06 in 2008, my worst 2:19:00 in 2012, I still have no idea how?…….my current best training pace this year has been 6:46/K for a 7K run…..but my average right now is just over 7 minutes a kilometer…..no where close to where I need to be……so time to buckle up….speed training, intervals……but how about strength training and cross training……..I’m in

focus….planning….and, well training…two races, 6 months apart……yeah, I’m in
