well it had to happen…and that was today….hill training, the dreaded hill repeats. only 3 today, a hill, we call them hospital hills, because the top/the turn around point is at our local hospital…….the hill’s a bit longer than I need….we’re supposed to use something 400 meters up, 400 meters back down….today’s is about 600 meters…the grade isn’t extreme, but it’s enough to build that strength, and as they say, character….
The first repeat is always the hardest, and then after the first turn around back down hill is better, and then at the bottom turning around the speed may be about the same, but, well, feels better…
Each week we add one until I get to 10…..I cannot decide between Wednesdays and Thursdays….I actually prefer Thursdays, good recovery, and if I don’t get my long run done on Sunday and have to do that on Monday, even better….but, Wednesday gives me more recovery before the Sunday long run…..
I keep playing around with the schedule, which I know isn’t good…I like the basic RRoom 18 week, two rest and recovery days, but I need to include swimming, biking, weights, yoga, strength training, because, well I like all the above, and all of the above I think makes me a better athlete and all around runner, and with less high impact, less likely to get hurt….or injured.
I spent part of my day at a photo shoot…which is laughable; if there’s anyone that’s possibly less photogenic, well, that’s just not possible…..but it’s for the club and the run club….so gettin’ real
Tomorrow I get to go get a blood sample taken…if there’s anything I like less?……but yeah, I’m 63, apparently I need to get the all round check up (yep, I’m getting that all tested too) the Doc says I need to get a couple more vaccines (yes, I’ve had all 3 COVID19) a flu shot, now for shingles and pneumonia … I guess I was supposed to get those done when I turned 50….so, I’m 13 years late, I haven’t died yet….yes cracking my skull open two years ago got me way too close, but hey, I’m 63, going on 18?
speaking of not being photogenic…yikes, yep…..3 hills in the snow. That made it harder, so hopefully that means stronger, and quicker?…….but like running on sand…
Rest day tomorrow….but, well, I have an urge for a few more kilometers, and perhaps a bit of time on the bike may be a good idea too…
Cannot believe how tired I am right now……I haven’t been sleeping the best, but this is a good tired…..the kind after a good day….hope for another good day tomorrow; I’ve got to keep building that distance, this Sunday I move on up to 12K, I may go further…….and get comfortable with that pace and more distance…
