22 Days. Twenty Two Days.

So Vancouver sounds great….and with only 22 days left, I’m fine, I’m okay, but, well…..I have this habit of saying yes to everything, and was just asked to help out at the Edmonton Marathon weekend in August….August 21st, with the half marathon runners…they pace bunnies, and well, I said yes, sure, why not?……..I’ve been given the job of pacing the group aiming at a 2:15 finish time……OMG!….

Sure I can do that…..a 6:25 kilometer….(10:20 mile)……but, well, I’m old!!!

let’s see….my history…..lots of histories with half marathons…

the first was in 1997, I have no idea what my time was…..it had to be around 2 hours (I once was 25?…I don’t even remember being 25…..)

did Vancouver in 2000, finish time 1:51:00……..how the heck did I do that?….

then 2006, Edmonton yet again 1:53:22

2008 Victoria 2:00:06, 2010 2:17:48; 2012 back to Victoria 2:19:00;

2014 Vancouver Rock n roll 2:16:05; back to Vancouver in 2015, 2:17:36….Edmonton in 2016 a 2:14:47;

Vancouver yet again in 2016 as well, 2:20:45 (I’ve spent a lot of time in Vancouver)……

2017 2:18:21, back to Edmonton the same year 2:13:21…….

then I got really slower…..2018 back to Vancouver 2:34, and 2019 2:43…….I’ve got to forget about those two…

So yeah, something to look forward to, and I know the drill…TRAIN LOTS……half marathons do not scare me, or shouldn’t ……..

so yeah, lots of time…but time for lots of everything…overall fitness…rest, and recovery…

Today was good…..much like the last 3 or 4 weeks…..lots of training, lots of options…and am feeling really good, positive and happy…..but that positive thing is good…

This week was all about running, running faster with one dropped run, that was still done, okay, and did add to the endurance training…..some strength, managed a swim……so all good…..now I just have to keep it up…

The first goal will be to get to that distance, work on the strength and speed to get to that pace….

I have done it before, I know I’m older, possibly slower…..if I keep at it, and remember to eat smart, train smart, be smart……this can be done….every day, every step..I coach people to do this, so I should be able to coach myself….

Today, just over a 6K run….a very windy day, a few good hills…10 and 1s, and my average pace, 6:44…on a tough day, along with the walk breaks…….so on the right, um, pace…..and lots of time…..

For now, I’ll focus on that…..the trip to Vancouver in 22 days, a 10K on May 15th…..and just remember, fun, training, and positive everything!
