Let’s Eat

this is an older picture….but that’s my daughter, my autistic daughter Sasha…

she’s older now, but sometimes still in her terrible twos…

for some reason this story has resonated with her.

the first time she watched….she actually started crying…or weeping…..I’d never seen that before

laughing, crying, not much of either…when she does laugh with someone it’s an amazing thing too

a few years ago she was with two of her workers…they were both younger, but I heard he laughing like I’d never heard before…honestly, seeing her happy, content is rare, which is why this was so amazing…she was laughing …. not forced or pretending to be laughing..but having fun laughing..amazing…

and yeah, Let’s Eat was a revelation.

She watched, stood and watched….and was wiping her eyes….I think she found it a comforting thing was interesting…

We watch it over and over, no tears now, but she sits and watches, quietly…and she insists being the one to turn the video off….even if I just play the music on this vid, she comes into the living room to just listen.

That’s the thing about autism. you never know. As Sasha’s got older and older, she seems to want to do less and less, maybe self consious….depressed?….she can’t or knows how to express that……but, yeah…she knows she’s different, it’s a challenge to get her to be comfortable with that and know that’s okay…and to, I guess be happy….and know, it’s okay to be different….

so, let’s just eat
